Anzac Day-Out, 26 April 2015

As per our tradition, BAWAZ organised another Anzac Day Picnic this year. Last year around 22 members had joined in to visit Northam which holds a very historical connection to the Australian history and culture. This year we had  28 local BAWAZ members who travelled north to Lancelin. Lancelin is a coastal fishing town approximately 130 kms' north of Perth. It is a very popular spot for the cray fishing industry, sand boarding and dune biking amongst other things.

The picnic day started with a 9.00 am coach pickup at the Edgewater Train Station after everyone recited our Ashem Vohu prayers beseeching Ahura Mazda Jee to protect us all on the trip and thanking him for everything we hold dear. On the drive everyone enjoyed seeing the beautiful open spaces and vast country side, passing by Aussie farms, forests and sand dunes before reaching Lancelin.

In Lancelin we had a pleasant drive around the town, being shown the highlights of the town and visiting the local beach, the white sand dunes, the four wheel drive off road buggy. Some of the young (and the young at heart) members joined in the local activities and had a blast sand boarding on the pristine white sands while others strolled along the beach or relaxed in the park.

The picnickers also enjoyed the traditional “Aussie” fish and chips lunch with beer/juice in the afternoon. After a few more games of cricket it was time to return home and on the way back an impromptu  stopover at a local pub for a cup of Chai (tea) was decided and the “escapades” at the venue is a story for another day! J After a full day of fun, and adventures we returned to the train station around 5.00 pm before heading off home in our own cars.

A big thank you for the coach and driving which was generously provided by Firoz & Mahrukh Pestonji from Aussie Perth Tours and to the great organisation done by the BAWAZ committee members especially Darayes Divecha and Tanaz Ghadiali who were in charge of this program.

Kind regards,

The BAWAZ Team
